Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (or EFT) was founded by Dr. Sue Johnson and is rooted in attachment theory. EFT utilizes experiential techniques in session to help couples understand their negative cycles, identify underlying feelings, and effectively express and receive needs and wants without distress.

EFT is an evidence-based and humanistic approach that helps individuals and couples identify, understand, and transform emotions to promote mental health. It views emotions as vital information and treats issues like depression, anxiety, or relationship conflicts by addressing underlying emotional processes rather than just behaviors.
