We are happy to answer any questions you might have regarding our services.

  • We are an out-of-network provider and do not directly bill insurance for treatment. However, many insurance companies may provide reimbursement directly to you upon receiving a superbill.

We can provide you with a superbill upon request.

If you are interested in possible reimbursement, we recommend that you call your insurance to find out what reimbursement will look like for an out-of-network provider.

  • A superbill is a statement for insurance companies that details the services provided by an out-of-network therapist or healthcare practitioner.

It is essentially a receipt for your visit that contains important information, such as diagnoses, needed by insurance, to reimburse you for the services after you’ve paid.

  • Sessions with owner Denan Burke, LMFT are $200 per 50 minute session.

Sessions with a licensed therapist are $160 per 50 minute session.

Sessions with an associate therapist are $140 per 50 minute session.

Sessions longer than 50 minutes are prorated.

  • We offer a limited number of reduced fee spots for those in need of financial assistance.

  • Yes, absolutely! All are welcome!

  • Individual sessions are 50 minutes . Couples often choose to meet for longer sessions (75-90 minutes) which is always an option for individual and couples work.

  • Initially, it often works best to meet weekly or every other week to address the concerns that brought you to counseling and to offer more immediate relief. After that, we usually decrease session frequency as needed for ongoing work. We will work together to find a meeting schedule that best addresses your needs and goals.

  • We are currently offering sessions in person in San Luis Obispo and online throughout state of California. We are not able to offer online sessions to those who reside outside the state of California.

If you have additional questions about whether or not Online Therapy is right for you, please email info@MindfulHeartCounselingCenter.com or call (805) 602-6845.

  • It is difficult to predict the number of sessions as it depends on many different variables. Every individual and couple is unique, so the process can vary considerably. When we meet for our intake session, we will be better able to offer an idea of length of treatment.

  • At this time we only offer sessions in English. However, our licensed therapist, Alisa Orozco, is conversational in Spanish and is able to provide support in Spanish to her clients’ parents/family members.

  • Associates are pre-licensed therapists who have earned their masters degree in counseling and are working toward completing their 3000 hours of supervised experience prior to applying for licensure.

Licensed therapists have completed their 3000 hours and have passed the California State Clinical Exam.

All of our associates are supervised by Denan Burke, LMFT #43515.

  • Appointments are made by visiting the contact page here or by calling or texting (805) 602-6845 or emailing info@MindfulHeartCounselingCenter.com.

  • If you need to cancel an appointment, please notify us by phone, text or email at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. Because your time is specifically reserved for you, cancellations less than 48 hours in advance will result in a charge of the full session fee.
Because we are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, we require that sessions occurring on Mondays be canceled by 6pm the Friday before your appointment.

  • Research findings have consistently shown that the most important factor in therapy outcomes is the quality of the relationship between the therapist and client. If the client feels safe with and trusts the therapist, therapy can have a much greater effect.  Therefore, when choosing a therapist, you may want to ask yourself if you feel comfortable when talking to the therapist and if you trust that this therapist has the expertise and skills to help you with the issues that are of importance to you.

  • Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and psychotherapist.  Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter. In general, paying out of pocket allows a higher level of confidentiality because we don't have to report your information to insurance companies.  However, we are required by law to disclose confidential information if you tell us you're an imminent danger to yourself, a danger to others, or if we hear about abuse or neglect of minors, the elderly, or dependent adults.
