In my pursuit to understand what infringes on our happiness and how to create change, I have sought out cutting-edge training and education.

Most specifically, I have received extensive training and certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy or EFT, one of the most well-researched and highly effective models for the treatment of couples.  In addition to utilizing this model of treatment in my practice, I have also offered supervision to other therapists training in this model, facilitated intensive couples workshops based on EFT and acted as a training assistant to help train therapists in this model.

I am also a long-time student and practitioner of mindfulness.   I have offered Mindfulness Workshops to the community and have completed Level I and II training from Mindful Schools, a highly effective and research supported program that utilizes mindfulness to facilitate effective learning, cooperation, and academic success.  Based on its simplicity, accessibility and effectiveness, I teach mindfulness in my work with individuals, couples  and parents.

We all long to love deeply and to be understood by those we hold most dear. We long for a life of meaning and relevancy. To this end, I dedicate this work to the practice of supporting those who move towards a life out of suffering and towards deeper meaning and connection.

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and owner of Mindful Heart Counseling Center in San Luis Obispo, CA.  I have  over 20 years of clinical practice working with individuals, couples, families and children.   My intention and commitment is to offer a safe and supportive space for self-exploration, healing and renewal.

I have a Masters in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies.  This degree program emphasized the importance of both Eastern and Western approaches to healing as well as the powerful impact of arts in the therapeutic process.  My approach to therapy includes a Person Centered, Mindfulness Based Approach to support individuals who are seeking lasting relief from suffering, as well as their own answers to both practical and existential issues.  For those that are interested, a non-dual perspective can also be integrated into therapy sessions.

During my time as a therapist,  I have witnessed the strong desire each of us has to live our lives to the fullest as well as the longing for deep and fulfilling connections with others.  I’ve also seen the suffering that occurs when somehow these are impeded or feel out of reach.  Inherently, we all have the capacity to explore and uncover what keeps us from fulfilling this potential and to create a shift in our lives.
